Inspired by Mameyei’s Story
Our agency is founded in honor of Mameyei, a strong and gentle woman born with a mental health disability. Her struggles were misunderstood for years, and she faced challenges that no one should have to face alone. As her sister, I’ve seen firsthand how vulnerable people can fall through the cracks — not because they’re weak, but because they’re not properly supported. This agency exists to make sure others like Mameyei are seen, heard, protected, and loved.
Mameyei was born in Sierra Leone, West Africa. When she came to the U.S. at age 10, her differences began to show. She was intelligent but often misunderstood socially. She spoke out impulsively and connected easily with older people, yet struggled to maintain friendships with peers her own age. This often left her feeling isolated. Growing up, children teased her, and as her sister, I defended her fiercely because she couldn’t always defend herself.
As she grew older, life became even harder. Vulnerable and unprotected, she was taken advantage of, which left her with three children—children we grew to love deeply. But the pain of her struggles stayed with me, fueling my determination to ensure that others like her are never left unseen, unheard, or unsupported.
In Her Hands HomeCare was born from that promise — that every individual deserves not just care, but compassion, advocacy, and protection.
Mission Statement:
In Her Hands Homecare isn’t just care — it’s compassion, advocacy, and dignity in action. Our mission is to empower and care for the elderly, as well as individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities, through compassionate, individualized support. Inspired by the life of Mameyei, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and loving environment where every person is seen, heard, and valued. We’re not just caregivers — we’re advocates, listeners, and companions.
